Today Team Esperanza visited the school, Escuela República De Mexico in the community of Las Delicias. Many of our team members were excited to return to this community and remembered seeing the patients from last year.
Most exciting today in the medical clinic was that the men from the Southern Command, who had been with us yesterday returned with some much-needed equipment and supplies including a blood pressure machine, stethoscope, ophthalmoscope, ace bandages and more! This was truly a very generous gift to our program!!!
Martha shared that she treated a sweet little boy who was not only deaf and mute but also hyperactive and possibly autistic. Not only did he try to help himself to some medicines which surely looked like candy, but he helped himself to some coffee in the dental clinic as well! It turned out that many of us across the clinics were touched by him. He has been referred to a neurologist.
Dr Bo shared that the dental clinic was very busy today and he was especially touched by the joy that his patients brought him as he restored their teeth. This led to a very in-depth discussion of how the dental clinic operates and how it has evolved over the 5 years that he has been volunteering. With 3 dentists and several volunteers in the clinic this week, patients were able to get filings, cleanings, extractions and fluoride. A full-service operation!
As always, our team has so many stories of the love we have for the FOBF staff here in Honduras and the many ways that they bless us every day. We couldn’t do our jobs without them.
With love,
Jodi Browne
