Hola y bendiciones desde Honduras! I will be sharing today’s blog from the newest addition to the FOB Healthy Communities program, EL CAPULÍN! Many may wonder what does Capulín mean? The name comes from the number of beautiful cherry (capulin) trees in the area which might explain the numerous colorful butterflies around the children playing and all of us working today. Butterflies symbolize transformative change and renewal which is my hope for this community.
I have the privilege of working alongside an amazing team of compassionate staff and volunteers! This life changing experience really instilled in me that I shall never take anything for granted because seeing today’s community truly demonstrated that despite the conditions some may live in, they are truly the happiest and most grateful people in the world. Even our presence and help within their community is a sign of hope. Funny enough, I misplaced my phone and was panicking on the inside, while the Honduran Friends of Barnabas team and local Hondurans didn’t hesitate to search. Eventually, it was found, but seeing the united effort really warmed my heart. <3
Sharing precious laughs and smiles with the local Honduran community really makes this all worth it. I have the pleasure to be alongside my sister Katie Franco and a good friend Karen Saint Fleur. Without Reveille UMC and The Pace Center, I wouldn’t be here, and I will be forever grateful for this unforgettable experience in hopes of being a great future nurse! Also, I cannot forget to shout out to the Reveille Team!
