I will lift up my hands and call upon Your Name” (Psalm 63.4).  “Lift up your heads…that the King of glory may come in” (Psalm 24.7).

The day started with a devotional by Shirley. “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalm 139:14. Each of us are made just the way God intended. God provides opportunities for us to encourage others by affirming their strengths…and then they have the opportunity to find their unique strengths, use them, and grow in faith.

Today the team went to Buena Vista, nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Honduras.  The community has 180 homes and 1120 residents divided into 200 families. The water source for the community is located 3.7 miles away and piped into the community. All homes cook on indoor stoves.

Evelyn and Elvin, worked with our dentists, provided essential dental care to a steady stream of patients. Evelyn gave her support to the first patient of the day Elvin, who needed to have a crown replaced.

Dale was able to help several patients with bad asthma and provided needed education on proper inhaler technique.

Jessica discovered that she had seen some of the same patients in the past and when doing teach back (where we understand what the patients understands) on the wellness bags, the most used items were the tooth powder and toothbrushes!

Jenna Lynn was able to identify a challenging medical puzzle by using historical data to provide care to a young girl suffering from malnutrition.

Billy brought smiles to the faces of the children he met by painting fluoride on teeth, painting fingernails and playing jump rope with the children.

Nareesa and Yolanda detected several cases of arrhythmias in children and hypertension in young adults.

Shirley was able to work with Alvin when Alvin found a young woman with very elevated blood pressure who needed to be seen urgently. Shirley was very impressed with Alvin’s quick thinking to get this sick patient seen quickly.

Chris scribed for the dental clinic and was able to provide data on fluoride treatments and extractions.

Kevin observed the clinic's workflow and was interested in how we were able to adjust the flow of the clinics to move patients through efficiently.

Carlos efficiently managed patients and provided support to Shirley so that the team could leave quickly in case of rain.

We ended the day with a devotional about honoring the divine spirit that lives in each of us and how when we spend more time with God, we unlock our Higher Selves. This Higher Self knows that this life is temporary and doesn’t share the fears of the ego. To remember this lesson, we create what our divine spirit looked like out of Play Doh.
